Circos diagram

Circos is een diagram waarmee n:m relaties kunnen worden gevisualiseerd. Oorspronkelijk bedacht om het menselijk genoom in beeld te brengen. Wat krijg je als je een architectuur interactiemodel in een zgn. Circos diagram presenteert?

Hiernaast twee voorbeelden: een 1:1 crossreferencetabel en dezelfde tabel maar dan gekwantificeerd naar transactievolume. De juistheid van de inhoud van de diagrammen is hier niet interessant. Het gaat hier om de vraag wat het Circos-diagram meer laat zien, dan een gewone architectuurtabel.

Deze diagrammen heb ik gemaakt met de webversie van Circos. Te vinden op http://circos.ca. De webversie is helaas beperkt tot een maximum van 150 kolommen of rijen. Deze voorbeelden laten ook alleen maar het interactiemodel voor functies x objecten zien.

Het is op deze manier mogelijk alle crossreferences van een enterprise architectuur in één circos diagram te tonen. Zo kun je alle Archimate relaties van een organisatie in 1 diagram vastleggen, dit is met Archimate zelf onmogelijk. Met een Circosdiagram ontstaat een Business DNA-profiel. Het lijkt mij machtig interessant om dat voor verschillende organisaties in beeld te brengen en te onderzoeken of daar patronen in te herkennen zijn.

Atlas of Science

Atlas of Science, based on the popular exhibit, "Places & Spaces: Mapping Science," describes and displays successful mapping techniques. The heart of the book is a visual feast: Claudius Ptolemy's Cosmographia World Map from 1482; a guide to a PhD thesis that resembles a subway map; "the structure of science" as revealed in a map of citation relationships in papers published in 2002; a visual periodic table; a history flow visualization of the Wikipedia article on abortion; a globe showing the worldwide distribution of patents; a forecast of earthquake risk; hands-on science maps for kids; and many more. Each entry includes the story behind the map and biographies of its makers. Not even the most brilliant minds can keep up with today's deluge of scientific results. Science maps show us the landscape of what we know.

Artikel Visualisatie

Voor het NAF jubileumboek State-of-the-art architectuur 2012 hebben Petra Adema, Sjako ten Haken en Paul Wokke een artikel over visualisatie geschreven. Hieronder de samenvatting. Het volledige artikel kun je vinden onder Plain Text.

Visualisatie is een ‘trending topic’. De nieuwe generatie architecten is opgegroeid in een wereld waar beelden, animatie, internet en gaming vanzelfsprekend zijn en 7 x 24 uur toegankelijk. Een belangrijk deel van het onderwijs vindt plaats met hulp van stilstaande en bewegende beelden. In de IT maakt visualisatie big data toegankelijk en is het een belangrijk element in de open data beweging. Buiten de IT zien we het terug in de populariteit van infographics en de data-journalistiek. De architectuurcommunity noemt visualisatie daarom als een belangrijke ontwikkeling voor het vakgebied.

Visualisatie is voor de architect een bijzonder krachtig instrument om de eigen gedachten te vormen en om vervolgens zijn denkwerk te delen met anderen. Communicatie van architectuur richt zich nu vooral op de rationele informatieoverdracht door tekst, tabellen en formele diagrammen. Deze middelen helpen in een architectuurproces echter niet als je ook beleving, ambitie of inspiratie wil overbrengen, bijvoorbeeld voor het nemen van beslissingen of het accepteren van veranderingen. Visualisatie kan hierbij een belangrijke rol spelen.

Voor businessarchitectuur vinden we visualisatie zelfs van essentieel belang. Juist in dit domein helpt visualisatie immers de taalverschillen tussen de diverse stakeholders op een effectieve en snelle manier te overbruggen.

Vrijdag 1 maart in Figi Zeist! The theme of this year's conference IC13 is about 'The Infographic Experience', where we presents the full range of information design: from paper to tablet, from book to blockbuster and from virtual to reality. Because infographics are no longer restricted to the bounding box of an article of a website.

Good rituals that i forget every day

1. Drink a glass of water when you wake up. Your body loses water while you sleep, so you’re naturally dehydrated in the morning. A glass of water when you wake helps start your day fresh. When do you drink your first glass of water each day?

2. Define your top 3. Every morning Mike asks himself, “What are the top three most important tasks that I will complete today?” He prioritizes his day accordingly and doesn’t sleep until the Top 3 are complete. What’s your ‘top 3’ today?

3. The 50/10 Rule. Solo-task and do more faster by working in 50/10 increments. Use a timer to work for 50 minutes on only one important task with 10 minute breaks in between. Mike spends his 10 minutes getting away from his desk, going outside, calling friends, meditating, or grabbing a glass of water. What’s your most important task for the next 50 minutes?

4. Move and sweat daily. Regular movement keeps us healthy and alert. It boosts energy and mood, and relieves stress. Most mornings you’ll find Mike in a Crossfit or a yoga class. How will you sweat today?

5. Express gratitude. Gratitude fosters happiness, which is why Mike keeps a gratitude journal. Every morning, he writes out at least five things he’s thankful for. In times of stress, he’ll pause and reflect on ten things he’s grateful for. What are you grateful for today?

6. Reflect daily. Bring closure to your day through 10 minutes of reflection. Mike asks himself, “What went well?” and “What needs improvement?” So... what went well today? How can you do more of it?
